You got some code from a researcher that's an edit of your own. How do you know what are the edits? Simple. Researchers don't care about readability, portability, standards or anything to do with SW development. Just look for the code that uses tabs instead of spaces. Done.
Haha. I know exactly what you mean, except that in my case it's spaces instead of tabs. (Except python code. There it's unnecessary semicolons.)
