On yet another hand, seeing non-standard extensions can give others ideas. For instance, if I impl'd a RISC-V CPU, I'd probably go the picoRV32 route for IRQs, b/c well... I think the privileged spec kinda bites for space-sensitive impls.

That wasn't me suggesting that "everyone who creates extensions should try to get them a letter assigned by RISC-V foundation" :). Which is neither practical nor desired. I was minddumping about the perceived dis/advantages to proliferation of (non-std) extensions period.
