Tonight ist "earth hour", that yearly event where people turn off their electric lights for an hour. Most stupid thing ever imo. Causes load changes on the grid, likely increasing overall carbon footprint, and sends the false message that saving energy means sitting in the dark.
Not that I think that sitting in the dark is a bad thing. Why do you think I am that pale? :) But wanna save the planet? Use LED lights, have good thermal insulation, switch to an electricity provider that uses primarily renewable energy, and use public transportation.
And what do they burn for light instead.
#disingenuous #overreactions A smart grid should handle the change easily. And the idea that a planned power event is disruptive is akin to the idea that renewables disrupt the grid. Operators are equipped to handle larger changes in demand every day.
The form that #earthhour takes is a public expression that people can take part in and it speaks to overconsumption. Your suggestions are fine but don't address public displays of awareness and solidarity.
