That was a PhD student from the institute for technical informatics, the computer science department at TU Vienna that is doing the stuff closest to the hardware level.
Uni lecture for freshman computer science students where they take apart a computer. Lecturer takes out the CPU and explains that modern CPUs have caches built in. Points to the bypass caps on the bottom side of the CPU and declares: "This are the caches." (TU Vienna in ~2009)
