Compiling dependencies as part of the build, or link pre-compiled libraries (check them into source control)?

Yeah, but would you check-in boost/opencv *binaries* into your source code version control system as the OP suggests? I'd rather cache lib binaries on the build server so it's only recompiled when necessary. (Version change or similar.)

I do. But I have everything checked in (compilers, any required tools, etc). Zero dependencies, except the vcs, to actually get the source. I setup ccache on the CI servers, let's see how well this works. Let's hope it keeps the compile times low.
