Last thing I have seen is one line per bit pattern, starting with "<tilename>.". Two words for PIPs, one word for everything else. Is this the format we are talking about?

I.e. the syntax is just a list of tags that can be present or not present in the file. So I propose FPGA Tag Language (FTL). The software component dealing with it would then be an FTL Drive(r). ;)

Nice overlap with faster-than-light technologies. :-) Also note web developers use .ftl for FreeMarker Template Language files.
