Usually when I get better in a programming language and/or API I also start liking it more. But Vivado TCL is so horrible, there isn't even Stockholm syndrome for it. (But I'm, glad Vivado has at least some API like this.)pic.twitter.com/5Oyhp7dwYB

I do find it amusing you think ISE is so much worse :).

It absolutely is. How would you do something like the thing I just posted with ISE? You could use XDL of course, but how would you query the physical structure of the chip so you'd know what to put in the XDL file?

I don't know, as I don't normally use ISE for the GUI- I typically just use it in command line mode to synthesize my crap.

I don't understand how this has anything to do with using it in the GUI. I don't use Vivado in the GUI either, except of I need to investigate something. All my scripts run in command line mode of course.

Huh, I could've sworn I replied to this tweet. Umm in any case, what program is generating the image on the right side of your original tweet? Is it part of Vivado?

Yes. But as I've said, that's of course not how I run the scripts. Why would I? After the script was finished I've scp'ed the design checkpoint to my local machine and opened it in the GUI so I can make a screenshot for twitter.

          >Why would I? Well, you wouldn't, since the functionality exists on the command line :P. I was so fascinated with the image GUI that I didn't take the time to actually _look_ at what you were trying to accomplish on the left side. At least I'm honest :P?

In any case, Migen devs want me to look into adding constraints using Vivado, so I'll be getting some experience w/ the TCL API despite not actually having it installed.
