Great follow-up. If I feel the other person would change their view if I present a convincing argument, then I am much more likely to do the same. Your opinion vs my opinion = bad. Let's find the truth together, even if we set out from different positions = good.

If there is trust I think it's okay to be emotional about the subject. It even can be a lot of fun and it shows that both care about the subject. Things fall apart the moment people become emotional about each other.
