Issue went away when I recompiled yosys. Perhaps for my own intellectual curiosity I'll bisect at some point to figure out what's wrong. yosys doesn't take _that_ long on my 2011 laptop, but 8GB and 8 jobs is a bad combo (better to use -j 3). So I recompile infrequently.
