Well.. Many muslims (have been indoctrinated to) think that being muslim is like being a member of a race, not being a member of a religion.
So when they don't follow Islam and don't believe in any of the bullshit, they think of themselves as "bad muslims", not atheists.

It's a really twisted situation because it's ok to criticize someone for a bad idea, but it's not ok to criticize someone for their race.

So be very careful with "all muslims" statements. People might misunderstand you because they equate being muslim with race, not religion.
