@latticesemi management, never got a response. A source close to Lattice said they are not happy about it.
Unfortunately that source was not given a rationale for that. I guess they don't have a rationale, just cognitive dissonance.

some piece of it is their IP, but otoh you're helping their hardware sales, and they give away the software tools for these devices anyway
