I got myself in a situation where gcc starts with crtbeginT.o but ends with crtendS.o x_x

the docs are really cryptic, I get the feeling -shared and -static are not opposites of each other

I'm using -Wl,-Bshared and -Wl,-Bdynamic now

When you start using -Wl it is usually a sign that you now know more about the linker than is healthy for most people. :)
