Using USBTMC over USB/IP because that is still much easier than communicating with test and measurement equipment via VXI-11.
USBTMC: Just open /dev/usbtmc<N> and use write() and read() to execute SCPI commands.

You can do with just the core endpoint, and the create/destroy/read/write calls. I think it's a nice protocol

Got a soft spot for SCPI. Built an automated test rig for Telecom with tons of SCPI-controlled equipment early in my career :)
