I don't get why the if(0)s are there, though? I get Duff’s device, but this?
Without the if(0) you'd always get num = "many". (The first if(0) is not needed tho. It's just there for symmetry. :)

So, this is to make it where you can write out “called with X args” whether it’s 0,2-infinite? And “called with one arg” if it’s 1. I would think it would be simpler and far more readable to have the case/switch store both the word and plurality, and then just print string after
