Each time someone writes something like "JKR is not an expert on trans issues or a doctor" I remind myself that I have a written statement by a doctor, an expert on trans issues, and that statement misgenders me over 50 times.
The extent to which most of those so-called experts don't seem to "get me" is just beyond description.. In many cases it's even the same people who 20 years ago would have 100% denied me access to HRT, and I can feel talking to them that they still think I'm "not really trans".
I’m certainly no expert. I feel comfortable in the polarity of skin I was born in. I understand that you don’t and am sorry that expressing your inner self is such a difficult and painful process. I just wish I was even half as smart and productive as you, Claire.
Doctors are somehow regarded as experts whenever it is even remotely about the human body. The only thing doctors learn is diagnosing and treating a specific set of physical illness. Everything else they don't know more than the average human.
