Yes, I got a singer tradition 2250. I'm pretty happy with it so far. 
I really hope there's no firmware.

Be careful if it does not. You will soon have a machine shop in your apartment. So you can hack on the sewing machine ;) After all firmware might be easier but machining is so awesome
