N00b question: what does lut4 mean?
4-bit lookup table. The nibbles in the 2nd argument each select a nibble in the first argument. Use for 4-bit S-boxes with data in 2nd arg and table in 1st arg. Use for nibble permutation with data in 1st arg and permutation in 2nd arg.
Yeah, it's incredibly versatile. Bitmanip can do stuff with that we in crypto tg wouldn't even dare to discuss; like address calculation via combined mask and shift (x & 0xFF) << 4 
But ofc in crypto PRESENT, Magma, and even AES (via https://www.shiftleft.org/papers/vector_aes/vector_aes.pdf … style trickery).
Can I follow up with a second n00b question? I take it that mask and shit to compute addresses is bad somehow (or could be). Why is that?
