I'm old enough to remember when the BACKSPACE wasn't a destructive keyboard command, so if you wanted to erase a character you had to press BACKSPACE to move the cursor backward and then press DELETE to delete it.

Using ifconfig on recent Linux machines. Manual sync before rebooting. I wonder every time if suspend/hibernate actually worked, even though the last time it broke for me is many years ago. Preferring alsa to pulse due to bad experiences with reliability and high latency.
