I just refreshed my mind (haven't used Object Pascal in >20 years), and apparently the "object" keyword was introduced by Apple's Object Pascal. Turbo Pascal seems to have adopted the same keyword, which got fixed in Delphi's Object Pascal to "class" (w/ backwards compatibility).
Turbo Pascal used the nomenclature "object" for classes and "instance of an object" for objects. (I have no idea if this madness later made it into Delphi.)
