Very weird. Looks like a few hours ago the name on this account changed to the email address the account is registered to. I changed it back to "Claire 
" now.

On a related note, do you plan to change your GitHub username? It was fairly painless the last time I did it.
Afaiu if you change your github user name the old name becomes available for someone else to grab and if they create an repo with the name of a repo that existed before this will break the forwarding.
So I created a new github account but I'm still not 
sure about the name..

Have you tried asking GitHub support? They're quite helpful from what I've heard, and I wouldn't be surprised if they'd put a lock on the old name - especially in cases like this where the username is/was a real name, not like anyone else would have a legitimate use for it.
