Someone broke into our rental car yesterday night and stole all my shit. Passport. Laptop. Keys. Credit cards. Etc. All gone. I'm still processing.. I had only two hours of sleep and I feel even worse now than before I went to bed. I want to cry but can't. This is so bad.

This has happened to so many colleagues, I never leave important stuff in the car when traveling.The only comfort I can give you is that all of those colleagues were able to get home and now are just quietly bitter about the experience. No long term ramifications.
I had my doubts about leaving the handbag in the car but my colleague was so confident about leaving their stuff, and it was behind a blind so one couldn't see it, but they just smashed the back window of a whole bunch of cars in a trial and error approach.

Of course they only stole my stuff and not my colleagues things, so arguably they were right about confidently leaving their stuff behind..
