I'm always say that part of my work as an engineer is be pessimism and point out all the things that can fail and are going to fail because shit happens and we have to be prepared... Some young pals engineers still don't get it...

so true. I think it's a skill, to be able to think all the ways things may break, and be prepared for it. Some people find this annoying though. I sometimes think it's also a matter of intuition.
