I paid 20 Euro extra to get something delivered today because I am leaving the country for two weeks tomorrow. I've been home the whole day until now. I just received an email that they could not deliver it bc nobody was home and that I can pick it up somewhere 1/3

Parcels are not made identical: What I found (in Germany) is that if it has an Amazon Prime sticker you can be damn sure it will be delivered personally and on time. If it's from a small retailer / private person it takes longer and often ends up directly in a collection point.

It wasn't always like that but today a few retailers account for almost all parcels being sent(I think 50 % for Amazon alone) so they are in a good position to put pressure on delivery companies. Smaller retailers and private customers can't do that, so they are often ignored.
