Cardboard challenge accepted! It only needs to work once, right? Like an egg drop. :D

I'll classify that as a win condition if the normal tea ustensils remain in a usable form for the next time. There's a lot of cardboard to use up.

Omg! :D So I am thinking wet cardboard rips easier than dry one. So single-use timer based on capillary effect? When it rips it pulls out the tea bag, or drops the cup. Would require some testing to see how reproducible the timing is.

Or use capillary effect to move liquid to slowly change the balance on a makeshift scale. That's probably even better..

just don't dip the cardboard into my tea, I'm sure that won't improve the flavor xD there's always a bit of leftover water that I can put on The Contraption™ though

Of course! Also, it must not spill more than a few drops of the tea. The timer is clearly the critical component. So that should be designed and tested first. Building the rest of the contraption around whatever timer works should be pretty easy then..

in a bout of... whatever the opposite of irony is... doing this ensured that I was standing right next to the oven when my breakfast buns were done so for once they are not Extra Crispy™

testing rig construction mishaps reveal that clearly the rate of unsticking of tape makes the best timerpic.twitter.com/FVHGcbSd3o

My current thinking has evolved to marble machine type timers. But no prototype yet. I was busy preparing myself mentally for a cold shower. Not really feeling prepared yet tho and now I'm out of time..

*salutes you* braver than any marine anyway construction has come to a halt due to the realization that I left my tea egg in HK. and also breakfast.
