PSA: Ask people "what name/pronouns do you prefer", not "is it okay if I use <name/pronouns you prefer for the other person>". Your preference does not matter. Don't make it an uphill battle for them if they don't agree with your preferred name/pronouns for them.

True. That said, I've always considered people's pronouns to be what they are and not a preference. That is to say, they're not simply a matter of opinion as the word "preference" might imply. So, I just ask "what are your pronouns?" and I like it when others ask the same of me.
