If you’re not sure whether rape culture exists consider how many times you’ve heard someone compare a woman to an unlocked car.

I've never heard that comparison. Ever. Rape culture definitely exists but that might not be the best representation.

You’ve never heard someone say, “if you park your car in a bad part of town and leave it unlocked, don’t be surprised if it gets stolen”? Or, “we lock our car doors to prevent theft, what’s so bad about saying women should protect themselves from rape”? That would surprise me.

Austrian here. I have never heard that specific comparison before. However, once a superior (!) told me "see that girl over there" and then he went on to literally describe to me how exactly he wants to rape her.

So, yeah, rape culture definitely exists.1 reply 0 retweets 4 likes
I mean I would not have needed to have this specific experience to know that rape culture exists of course.. And this one event was pretty extreme. But there are a few men who say the weirdest shit to "other men". I guess bc they feel safe bc they think all men are like them?
