I don't know about "normal scientific process". There was a frickin Nobel prize for dark energy and cosmetic acceleration just a few years ago..

LOL re: "cosmetic". Anyway, yes, there was a Nobel prize (2011) for discovery of 'faster than expected' expansion. And now the plot thickens with apparent sign of anisotropic expansion! Fun, fun, fun for me!!!
