Interesting. A friend who grew up in DDR once told me it was called "Warsaw Pact" in the west and "Warsaw Treaty" in the east.

I think "pact" has a slightly negative connotation, no? At least that is the case with equivalent German words. Maybe this was primarily a distinction in West vs East Germany, where both sides were speaking German, not so much in the English speaking parts of the world?
