"global" is an interesting term in computing because it can mean anything between "spans the entire function" to "spans the entire universe" and you never know which without context

Turns out "global register allocation" wasn't global enough, so now there's also "interprocedural register allocation". They should have called it "superglobal", like an optimizer that produces optimal results is a "superoptimizer". Non-comparable adjectives in CS...
