And where do Fruits fit in?

Fruits are also parts of plants. Specifically, fruits are the parts containing seeds in flowering plants. Vegetable is ill defined. Afaik the original meaning is just any edible part of a plant, including fruits. But the modern culinary use excludes things like fruits and nuts.

Note that (famously) tomatoes are strictly speaking fruits, even though that doesn't "ring right" with most peoples intuition for what a fruit is. They say knowledge is to know that a tomato is a fruit. And wisdom is to know not to put tomatoes in a fruit salad. ;)
