Approaching the next Yosys release. Which numbering scheme should we use going forward? (Last release was Yosys 0.8.)

Well, then don't release any nonzero MINOR.PATCH versions. In my (
@gnuradio) experience, it's easier to roll out bug fixes without any headache if you can give them version numbers as you go along. But if you just release yosys 10.0.0 followed by 11.0.0 each year, nothing is lost. -
Thus, my clear recommendation: Go for semver;not a big hassle, and gives you the _freedom_ to release smaller increments later on.With single-position numbers, you can't release a small bug fix version. It makes the people packaging Yosys for their distros a tiny bit happier, too!

Echoing the vote made by Marcus and Aliaksei, Semantic Versioning is useful and having your version number make it clear right now that you are still making API changes with every release is a good use of it. I bet its not so long until you start doing bug fix releases as well.
