How to quit a conversation when the other side just doesn't stop "cheating" by piling one fallacy on top of another? #AskingForAFriend
It's like talking to a fucking salesman who doesn't stop telling lies until you buy their shit or walk away. It's so incredibly frustrating.

oof, I guess I've been lucky. one thing I have had to do is accept that some people only respond to condescension. it's obv. easier for me if I can be 'good' and treat people the same way I would like to be treated, but doing so universally has had some spectacularly bad outcomes

You can't work with people like that, only be exploited by them. See if you can get someone with power to deal with the issue. If everyone is siding with the extremely unreasonable person, you're in a bad situation and should probably look to get out.

My experience says you rarely have to. You might lose business but that's far better than losing your sanity. There's also a fair chance they're on a power trip and being assholes because they trust you're not going to walk away, and when you do, they're the ones losing

Some context; I have worked with military electronics. Could have walked but stayed 3 years. I'm not proud but I don't hate myself for it. I do however hate myself for not speaking up to the racist fuckheads there and often wish I could go back and punch them in the face. YMMV

Seems like the cost/benefit ratio is too high. An exit strategy might then be the only option to keep your sanity. I’ve recently had a similar situation.

Your energy is more valuable than a possible good idea from an unpleasant person. And even if you find it, you still have to work with them! "A bird in the hand..." and all that. I think you should walk away.
