Student (in class): Why do you make us do X? Me: It will prepare you for jobs. Student (not doing X): But I'm paying YOU to teach ME, I shouldn't have to do this! Student (after graduation): Why didn't you prepare us for jobs!?
I've had a discussion just yesterday about this student attitude ("I shouldn't need to do X, it's YOUR job to teach ME"). I think it's one of the side effects of high tuition fees. I haven't seen that issue at all in Austria, where university is basically free.
