right. the phrasing here makes the assumptions more difficult to unpack than they should be.
Hmm.. The only interesting solution I can see requires the assumption that every woman knows that every other woman knows the status of every men except her own husband. But it doesn't require the assumption that 40 is all the husbands in town.
