I was just told "it's hard to keep up with these new C++ features, I'm used to C" when I suggested a construction supported in C since C89.

Once I realized I could split strings like "foo bar" into "foo " "bar" split over two separate lines, building core generators became much easier and the results more legible. It's a shame I never learned this trick until I'd been coding for decades ...
