I just spent over an hour trying to figure out why the heck my thunderbolt dock stopped working. Pro tip: Actually plug the thunderbolt cable in the thunderbolt capable USB-C port, not the USB-only port.

the worst part is that the protocol is fully capable of letting you see what's wrong here, but neither OS, nor firmware, nor even the USB PD controller will easily divulge this information.
I already wondered about that. The main reason why it took me so long to figure out what was wrong was bc I even took the extra time to boot into Windows, assuming that Windows would be able to diagnose trivial issues like that. But nope, and so I assumed something serious broke.
