Very hot take: Like there's a difference between the Moon and a moon, there's a difference between the Planets and a planet. Pluto, Ceres, Vesta, every moon and every other astronomical body that isn't a star _is_a_planet_, regardless of if it's one of the Planets or not.

Remarks: A "astronomical body" is a single, tightly bound, contiguous entity (per wikipedia) and my definition of "star" includes protostars, pre-main-sequence stars, and stellar remnants.

Rationale: With this definition of a planet, planetary science is the scientific study of planets. Otherwise planetary science is the study of planets, dwarf planets, moons, asteroids, meteoroids, and so forth. And I think planetary science should simply be the study of planets.
