On @DeepMindAI AlphaStar: It's _very_ impressive! No question about that. But I'm not so convinced by that APM argument re "unfair advantage" wrt microing. And the whole focus / framing / accessing unit properties story is also pretty fishy.

My personal bar for a superhuman SC2 AI would be (1) for play it must actually interface with the game through the regular game UI only and (2) the AI "reaction time" must be padded to at least 500 ms. Otherwise IMO: Maybe you have a superhuman AI there, but maybe you don't.

Isn't 500ms a bit harsh? 200ms seems more reasonable for a focused pro player.

Are we talking "fair" or are we talking "convincing threshold" for definitely superhuman intelligence. Because I'm talking about the latter and tbh I think 500 ms is super short for making a meaningful strategic decision.

If it's just better because it's quicker at delivering a trivial actions then it's superhuman because of that, but it's not superhuman _intelligence_. If you want "fair" you'd need to somehow separate strategic decision-making from reflex-like actions wrt delay.

So one part could be to add 200ms delay from when something happens on screen until it reaches the AI. That would emulate the "reaction time" at least.

Or (imo much better) just beat the best humans repeatedly with an AI with added 500 ms delay and eliminate all doubt regarding the superhumanness of the AI.
