Welcome to the horrors of writing portable C code. :) I once even wrote a clang patch that allowed me to set a behavior (strictly left-to-right or strictly right-to-left) per source file, so I could bisect a case of "works on Windows, doesn't work on Linux" on a large code base.

Of course I didn't know beforehand that this even really was the problem. It just was a lucky guess. (Or not so lucky, because it wasn't my first guess. :) So +1 on OPs suggestion for a flag, even though I wouldn't use it in production, only for debugging.
