Hey @oe1cxw - just wondering if you'd talked to @MicrochipTech about support for Open-Source FPGA toolchains. They're fairly maker-friendly, and now that they own @pmcmicrosemi it would be a good opportunity for them to boost their profile in the FPGA world.

I remember this interaction from 2015 very well. It's the main reason I haven't really posted anything on the eevblog forum since. (Being told my work is a waste of resources doesn't feel good. Why would I want to seek that experience again.) So, what changed your mind?pic.twitter.com/NF0SpuLUMk

Many ideas for OS projects there (scope, DMMs etc.) come to nothing as it's a lot of work for minimal utility. I tend towards the skeptical, but was proved wrong in this case! Saw your ccc talk/comments re. hostile vendors, wondering if Microchip was among them.

I can tell you that I have not talked to Microchip at all. (But I can't answer any direct questions re Microsemi tho.)
