Why do you link to YouTube at all? It's preferred and recommended by the club to only use http://media.ccc.de . I really wonder.

Because I watch everything on YouTube (I use YT playlists heavily to organize my to-watch-lists and access it from different devices independently of CCC talks), and the YT player embeds nicely in Twitter, and the YT video links to http://media.ccc.de  but not vice versa.

Ah, I see. :) Then I have to clarify my previous comment: #c3voc prefers to only share(!) media.ccc links, yt is only used by them so ppl can search and find the vids there, hence no link from media.ccc to yt. #privacy

So you are saying they deliberately make the http://media.ccc.de  links less useful by omitting information from them and then wonder why people prefer to share the link that contains a superset of that information?

Looking at #privacy issues and the problem of Internet #monopolies the media.ccc-links are much more "useful". It's a question of ethics & values, not only tech. You can either ignore or respect this view, I just wanted to let you know so you can decide for yourself. :)

If the http://media.ccc.de  pages would have links to YouTube there would be no privacy issue because nobody would need to click them if they didn't want them. But by making this decision for the users they're incentivising me to share the YouTube links instead.

That's the whole point. They do not let people "decide for themselves". In their attempt to prevent people from using YouTube they create the incentive to share YouTube links instead of http://media.ccc.de  links in the first place.

Why would you do that if you think it's not a good thing & ppl can get what you offer - videos - somewhere better?
