I just kept maintaining a set of libc patches without even trying to get them upstream. Occasionally some of my changes still ended up in libc without me doing anything (and without attribution). In some cases even things that were loudly rejected on the mailing list years before
That’s how I work with nearly all open source projects these days. I have a github account full of forks containing two or three commits of my own, because most of my attempts to submit them to the main projects have failed due to politics.
