.. by those Americans whose vote isn't suppressed or whose vote isn't rendered irrelevant by gerrymandering. Because some Americans are more American than others I assume .. That's not what a democracy looks like and that's why the rest of the developed world is horrified.

If you don't like how America is governed, then let me invite you to fix how your own government is governed, and then share with the world the shining example of your success.

In our last presidential election, the candidate with the most votes won. Every Austrian citizen can cast a vote. No extra registration required, no mechanism to deprive minorities of their right to vote. We almost always have a voter turnout of significantly >70%.

You might ask "but how can I replicate this 'shining example of success'?" It's quite simple: If one of your political actors attacks democracy itself, don't vote for them. Make sure they understand they have to play within the rules or they don't get to play at all.

Last time a party tried to undermine the democratic process in Austria they managed to get a close election result annulled and forced a re-run of that election. In the re-run they lost again, but this time not close at all. Austrians said loudly "Don't mess with our Democracy!"

Oh, I get this. There should have been political consequences for this BS a long time ago. In a working democracy Newt Gingrich would have been the end of the GOP in the 90s. Instead conservative voters embraced people like him and put the US on a path away from democracy.

Politicians who decide to pick their voters instead of truthfully representing their electorate must be voted out of office immediately. Letting them wreck the system for decades is unacceptable and a very bad idea. Now the US as at the verge to fascism. I just hope for the best.
