I'm troubleshooting a few *really* weird hardware issues all at the same time. One of them just went away after wiping the board with isopropanol. wtf!?

Are you using some other flux than “no clean”? If you have some conductive flux residue, cleaning with IPA would make a conductive path go away.
All flux here should be "no clean", I didn't solder on this board recently, and usually I clean with isopropanol after doing any soldering work. I think wiping with isopropanol actually *created* a conductive path, temporarily fixing the issue. (probing stuff also works, grrr :)

That is annoying. I hate issues that “magically” go away. I prefer knowing what was going on and why it went away. :/

Once when SMT soldering by hand a component came down suddenly and solder splashed from under it, perhaps creating invisible threads & balls. The board wouldn't boot until I'd cleaned it with a stiff-bristle brush.
