I'm still not over this.. :D Looks like it does it correctly in Satellite mode, but incorrectly in Maps mode. But if the correct path crosses right through the Arctic Ocean then the path disappears there in Satellite mode.pic.twitter.com/wXMRBL0Iri
When dragging either of the marker in Satellite mode, the wrong path is displayed during dragging (as if in Maps mode). As soon as the marker is released it switches back to the correct path.
Oh that’s weird. And google maps in my desktop web browser now shows a (correct) spherical globe view, not a rectangular projection. When did that happen???
I’m pretty sure they went for the image that makes “sense” from a design perspective. Even if that doesn’t make sense from a scientific perspective.
Greenland. KEF is a commonly used diversion airport in Iceland. There are a few options in Canada. SFJ is an airport in Greenland itself that can handle larger planes (the only one afaict). But even the Greenland Ice Sheet is 1000x better than a water landing in the Atlantic imo.
