Spent far too long trying to get iverilog setup to compile/simulate a large part of my FPGA design. It kept failing to parse attributes in picorv32. Long story short the version of iverilog I had installed was from 2010....
Built from source and all these issues went away! 
In part using picorv32, in part parsing Yosys output, and also in part vloghammer. We reported a lot of issues in the last 8 years and they have always been quick to fix them. It's a great project, but many distributions package way too old versions of it.

I can confirm that. I had to compile it from source too on my Ubuntu machine. It is a very useful tool indeed. :)
