Yes. I was the original author and after a few years I decided that I need time for new projects and gave OpenSCAD to Marius, who took excellent care of it ever since. Nice altimeter. Are those involute gears?! I have a python involute gears generator somewhere on thingiverse.
Oh! Someone actually wrote a parametric involute gears generator in OpenSCAD. See, that's exactly the kind of work I mean in the OP. On the one hand this is truly awesome and breathtaking in the best possible way, but on the other one it is also a bit horrifying..

When I first heard about that "new shape" I thought I might do an OpenSCAD model, but then thought "nah, it has curved surfaces, that's super hard to do in OpenSCAD". But @mathgrrl doesn't care. Because those OpenSCAD users, they are badasses and they just make it work. :D 2/2
