A HDMI cable contains TMDS for video, and i2c for the low speed DDC stuff, a pin that is shared for CEC, HEC, and audio return, a ground pin, a +5V pin and a hotplug detect pin that's also used for HEC.
TMDS is the only signal relevant for video. You'd just need to delay the TMDS signals. There is no return channel on TMDS. Your remote uses CEC.

Thanks Clifford. That’s literally more than I knew about HDMI. Point still stands tho, whole cable - if so long, wouldn’t just impact the digital video signal :-)

You can just drive the TMDS signals and leave the rest unconnected. Works just fine. (I did that a few times with custom video signal sources I built.) Even if you'd connect the rest, the system will probably act as if they're unconnected if it sees no response within short time.
