Yeah, that’s exactly right. But after suggesting public critique, I was stunned to see the level of contempt many in media have for their readers. This is way worse than I thought.https://twitter.com/bonnienorman/status/1000470928067776512 …

"contempt for their readers"!? You are misrepresenting the criticism. How good can your idea be if you have to resort to arguing a strawmen instead of engaging with the actual criticism? (

I'm not familiar with this discussion but I do know that there are people working in media who are deliberately serving altered and/or false information for their readers / viewers. That could be interpreted as contempt?

So why not familiarize yourself with the discussion before posting a defense for one of the positions? This "posting before researching" attitude is exactly one of the reasons why Musks idea is not very good.

Also: Just because someone correctly identifies a problem doesn't mean they have the right solution. This is a recurring theme unfortunately: People misrepresenting criticism of a proposed solution as ignorance of the problem itself. But they are two separate things.

What actually throwing me off is when someone just tells me that my ideas a shit without proposing a better one.. I understand that people get butthurts, but without rational explanation it is just BS

Rational explanations and proposing alternatives are two different things. Asserting or implying that criticism is irrational when no alternative is proposed is ridiculous.

Not if criticism is in form of "it is ribbish, full stop" :)

This might be a very weak argument. But it is not irrational per se. The problem with this criticism also isn't the lack of proposed alternatives. The problem is that it lacks explanation that would allow others to follow the thought process that resulted in that conclusion.
