The EU sees itself - and is - an organisation that develops all kind of standards and regulations that protect their citizens, the environment, and are generally redistributive, and where market forces push in the opposite direction.

Now the EU currently has a certain number of those standards, but certainly there will be many more coming down the line, especially also on the environmental side.

Whatever the EU signs today will most likely be in place for a few decades. If the deal is a ZTZQ deal and the UK does not dynamically align there is a big risk that companies simply benefit from that deal and move their production away from the EU to the UK, to sell into the EU

This in turn means that the EU will be limited in their own sovereignty in how far they can go in environmental and social regulations. The EU does not like this.

So TLDR — any good deal will come with dynamic regulatory alignment because it would be silly for the EU to restrict their own future sovereignty for the benefit of a trade deal with the UK

So the question here is not whether dynamic alignment is reasonable — it is — but whether for the UK the benefits of relatively smooth market access outweigh the loss of sovereignty.
